Course Objective

As the industry standard spreadsheet for the analysis and presentation of business data and results, Microsoft Excel is indispensable for every office professional. This course is specially designed to help you master Microsoft Excel as a business tool to organize, analyze and present business data in an effective and professional manner. Also included in the course are valuable advice and guidance from experienced instructors that course participants can apply to real life situations.

Course Prerequisites

Course participants should be at least 18 years old, have an education level of Form 5 or above, and possess basic business concepts and knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Course Content

Module 1: Microsoft Excel for Business Data Analysis

Organizing growing data systematically and enabling automatic updating of reports and charts:

  • Automatic updating of reports and charts with live data
  • Handling growing data in formulas using Offset, Indirect and Array
  • Using VLookup to retrieve specific data from a database
  • Handling #N/A and different types of formula errors

Summarizing data for an overview:

  • Summarizing data using SUMIFS and DSUM based on dates and complex criteria
  • Managing the time value of money using Excel financial functions, e.g., IRR, XIRR, MIRR, NPV, etc
  • Reconciliation of data from multiple workbooks

Evaluating business performance with data analysis:

  • Analyzing and reporting data using PivotTables

Creating professional reports in Excel:

  • Building advanced Excel charts, e.g., overlay multiple charts
  • Professional Dashboards using conditional formatting and Sparklines

Module 2: Microsoft Excel for Financial Planning and Control

Data modeling by scenario:

  • Budgeting
  • Forecasting
  • Using Net Present Value (NPV) for project selection
  • Pricing & costing

Module 3: Microsoft Excel for Business Decision Making

Leveraging Excel features to facilitate decision making and the use of resources:

  • Forecasting by regression analysis
  • What-if analysis: Goal Seek, Data Table and Scenario Manager
  • Using Solver to optimize resources

Module 4: Microsoft Excel for Sales and Marketing

Using Excel in sales analysis and formulating marketing strategies:

  • Spreadsheet modeling for sales and marketing
  • Setting up relationships to link up multiple worksheets in creating PivotTable reports
  • Linking live data between Excel and PowerPoint
  • Integrating an Access database with Excel
  • Advanced data analysis techniques using SQL and PivotTables
  • Using Macros to automate Excel processes

Title of Award and Assessment Methods

Students have to finish and pass 2 project assignments. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for the course.

Course Fee

$5,850 ($1,170 for eligible applicants after maximum 80% course fee reimbursement from CEF upon successful completion of the course)

Course Delivery Language

Cantonese-taught and English-taught courses are available. Course material is only in English.

Application Procedure

  1. Proceed with on-line registration or send the completed enrolment form (download) to us together with a cheque (made payable to Welkin Compuer Training) for the program fee.

  2. CEF applicants have to complete the CEF Application Form (download) and send it to us for certification. They will then send the form to the Office of the Continuing Education Fund, Room 916, 9/F, Kwai Hing Government Offices, 166-174 Hing Fong Road, Kwai Chung, New Territories, together with a photocopy of their HKID Card before course commencement.

  3. Applicants will receive application results from the Office of the CEF within 14 working days.
