Computer graphics and design visualization are hot and in great demand over the world. Their applications can be found in many areas such as computer games, the media and entertainment, and architectural and interior design. Professional animators use a great variety of 3D effects to create admirable and astounding scenes. In the design field, you can hardly win a project without employing realistic visualization and simulation in your design. As a result, the demands for CG skills and professionals on the market are consistently on the rise.

Course Objective

CG Animation & Visualization with 3ds Max is an advanced CG course tailored to take your skills up to the professional level. You will learn to create animated scenes with Autodesk 3ds Max, starting with the principles of animation and then proceeding to applying the skills specifically to 3ds Max. The course utilizes the flexibility and simplicity of 3ds Max as a platform, allowing you to explore your potential as a CG animator or design visualizer. On completing the course, you will have acquired film-making, animation and video composition skills to enable you to confidently transform creative ideas into the visual actuality of animated stories.

The course includes lectures and hands-on practice, offering you the best opportunity to strengthen your 3D skills to the professional level. You will learn professional skills and techniques to handle 3ds Max animations, V-Ray rendering and After Effects compositions.

Course Prerequisites

Course applicants should be at least 18 years old and have completed Form 4 or above. Previous knowledge of 3ds Max is essential. The course is also suitable for those who have finished Diploma in 3D Animation Design at Welkin.

  2. Scenes Control & Visualization (18 hours)
    • Advance of Lighting and Material in 3ds Max
    • V-Ray Renderer
    • Scenes Layout and Arrangement
    • Bird eye View Exterior Daytime Lighting
    • Interior Scenes Control
    • Volume Light, Environment and Effect
    • V-Ray Material & Mapping
    • Composite Mapping
    • Night Scenes Control
    • Render Element
    • Distributed Render

  3. Post Editing & Final Composition (9 hours)
    • Composite Video Concept
    • Using Open EXR Format
    • Importing Media
    • Multilayer Compositing and 3D Effects
    • Masking
    • Colour Correction for Clips
    • Pre-Compositing
    • 2D Compositing
    • Camera and Lighting in AfterEffects
    • Tracking and Stabilizing
    • Render the Final Composition

Title of Award and Assessment Methods

Students will be assessed on a 3D animation project. The course certificate will be awarded to students who have had an attendance of 80% and passed in the course project. You will also get an official attendance certificate issued by Autodesk

Course Fee

$6,900 ($1,380 for eligible applicants after maximum 80% course fee reimbursement from CEF upon successful completion of the course)

Course Delivery Language

The course is taught in Cantonese. Course material is in English.

$3450 x 2 monthly instalments (total $6900; $1380 after 80% CEF reimbursement), 36 hours in 12 sessions, 2 sessions per week

Application Procedure

  1. Proceed with on-line registration or send the completed enrolment form (download) to us together with a cheque (made payable to Welkin Compuer Training) for the program fee.

  2. CEF applicants have to complete the CEF Application Form (download) and send it to us for certification. They will then send the form to the Office of the Continuing Education Fund, Room 916, 9/F, Kwai Hing Government Offices, 166-174 Hing Fong Road, Kwai Chung, New Territories, together with a photocopy of their HKID Card before course commencement.

  3. Applicants will receive application results from the Office of the CEF within 14 working days.
